Adam Robert Young

The Fremantle Series
The Fremantle series marks an important stage in Young's photographic evolution. It was the first time he experimented with using Australia's naturally high-contrast light to isolate individuals, lifting them out of their surroundings. This is an expression of Adam's appreciation of each person as a unique individual, part of the world but also isolated from it by their own perceptions and internal monologue. It is almost as though there is in fact two individuals - the one seen by others, living in the shared world, and the one known only to ourselves, living in our own isolated world of thought and perception - represented in these images by the individual and their shadow - two persons living in two worlds, connected yet apart.
