Anti-Japanese Protests

An underlying anti-Japanese sentiment, combined with increasing tensions between China and Japan over ownership of the Diaoyu/Senkaku Islands led to large-scale public protests across China and also in Japan.  Protests in Guangzhou - as seen in this gallery - were relatively sedate, but in other parts of the country Japanese-owned factories and businesses were vandalised or even burnt down.
